More than one million writers have taken to LinkedIn to offer insights into their professional world. All writing is hard, but coming up with topics to write about is relatively easy to do when you have a track record. All of those experiences come with wins, losses, bruises and wisdom.
But my focus at LinkedIn is on millennials—particularly students and new grads. What do people just starting out in their career have to add? What insights can they share about the world around them? As it turns out—and as they know—the answer, is plenty. And we should all be listening.
One of the best parts of this job is watching students and recent grads use LinkedIn’s publishing platform to build their professional presence online, gain visibility and write their way to opportunity.
They’ve written about overcoming self defeat, student-loan debt, job rejection, creating a collection of gold dresses, using technology to create social impact, and more.
As the fastest-growing demographic on LinkedIn, we wanted a way to get the word out about publishing to even more students.
This is why we’ve created LinkedIn’s Student Publishing site, a hub for students (and millennials!) to learn more about why they should publish and how to do it well. They’ll also be able to explore topics to write about and read some of the top student posts each week.
If you’re a student looking to reach more people, be sure to add #StudentVoices in the body of your post for possible promotion on LinkedIn’s newsreader Pulse.
We’re also launching our Campus Editor Program, which will help to bring these student voices and perspectives to LinkedIn.
Here’s a sampling of how students have used LinkedIn blogging to create opportunities for themselves:

The campus editor link is dead. Is there a live redirect or are the postings closed?

Open question to any current or former LinkedIn campus editor: Is reaching out to on-campus writers and performing on-campus tasks a necessity? I’d like to apply to the program, but due to my schedule, I’d be unable to do that.
