A 2018-2019 Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellow and the NCCE 2020 closing keynote speaker, Dunbar was 2016 California Woman of the Year, Assembly District 12, and won the 2021 ISTE Interactive Video Conferencing Network Classroom Educator Award and 2018 ISTE Literacy PLN Award for #CultivateWorldLiteracy. She is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and Global Learning Mentor, National Geographic Certified Educator & MinecraftEDU Certified Global Mentor. She won the 2010 eInstruction $75,000 Classroom Makeover Video Contest, wrote a successful Enhancing Education Through Technology federal grant for Manteca Unified School District in 2008, and was Teacher of the Year in MUSD. A popular presenter and trainer around the country, Dunbar was the featured presenter at the 2017 Microsoft Hack the Classroom Online Event broadcast live around the world.

Jennifer is a first-generation college graduate and reflects her family’s South Texas Latino roots in her hard work, dedication, and passion. She has bachelor’s degrees in Human Development & Family Sciences, and Philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in Counseling from The University of North Texas. Jennifer has served in Dallas area public schools for over 14 years as a teacher, school counselor, at-risk facilitator, and coordinator of administrative services and special programs. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor working with Spanish-speaking families and adolescents experiencing a variety of concerns.
A voracious proponent of the benefits of education and training, Jennifer believes that schools provide opportunity, access, and support to enable all students to create their life pathway and that mental health is foundational to successfully navigate that journey. In her current role as Director in Mental Health Services in Dallas ISD, Jennifer advances equity in access to high quality mental health care for all students, especially students of color and in underserved communities.
